Partnership/Planning

This initiative is supported through the National Park Service’s Rivers, Trails, and Conservation Assistance (RTCA) Program, in partnership with Kentucky Trail Towns, local governments, and regional organizations. Together, these partners are identifying, mapping, and interpreting sections of the Path from the Cumberland Gap to the Ohio River. Their shared goal is to establish a National Historic Trail designation and align portions of the route with the U.S. Bicycle Route System, ensuring access for hikers, cyclists, and travelers seeking both history and adventure. Through community-based planning and storytelling, the project empowers local people to serve as custodians of the land and interpreters of its legacy.
