For more than twelve thousand years, the trail known as the Warrior’s Path—called Athiamiowee, the Common Path, by the Shawnee—has crossed the heart of Kentucky. From the Cumberland Gap to the Ohio River, this ancient corridor followed the land’s natural ridges and valleys, guiding wildlife, Indigenous peoples, and later explorers and settlers. It was a road of commerce, conflict, and connection linking the Gulf of Mexico to the Great Lakes. Today, as the Warrior’s Path is rediscovered through heritage parks and trail towns, it once again unites Kentucky’s people, landscapes, and history.
